Professor Caterina Minniti

• Dr Minniti is a Board-Certified Pediatric Hematologist –Oncologist, Professor Emeritus of Medicine and Pediatrics at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. • Formerly she was the Director of the Sickle Cell Center for Adults at Montefiore Medical Center, in New York and the Director of the Red Cell Disorder Center at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, DC. • Dr Minniti trained as a physician in Italy and then moved to the United States to perform basic science and translational research at NIH, and obtain further education in Pediatric Hematology Oncology. She graduated from top tier institutions such as Johns Hopkins University, the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and NHLBI. • Dr Minniti is a clinical trial specialist and a translational researcher who believes that the best way to provide care for SCD patients is on a continuum, from birth to adulthood. She has participated in many of the trials that have led to the approval of current therapeutical options, from chronic transfusions for stroke prevention, to Hydroxyurea for infants to most recently, the use of Voxelotor in SCD. • She has authored multiple book chapters and more than 170 peer reviewed articles.
