Professor Kalpna Gupta

Kalpna Gupta, PhD is a Professor of Medicine in the Division of Hematology/Oncology and Susan Samueli Scholar of the Susan Samueli Integrative Health Institute, University of California, Irvine, CA, following a career as a tenured Professor, University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, MN. She developed mouse models of pain and led the understanding of mechanisms of pain in sickle cell disease (SCD) at the intersection of the disease process and the nociceptive system using multidisciplinary and translational approaches. She is a recipient of the Excellence in Hemoglobinopathies Research Award from NHLBI/NIH, a Pioneer Award from the SCD Association of America and Science without Borders award from Government of Brazil. She has served as an advisor to the NHLBI/NIH for SCD and serves as a member of the PhD workforce initiative of the American Society of Hematology. She is deeply involved in mentoring the future generations of scientists in health-related careers.
