Dr Eugenia Vicky Asare

Dr. Eugenia Vicky Asare is an adult haematologist working in Accra, Ghana. She has devoted her clinical and research career to the care of individuals with sickle cell disease (SCD) and, most importantly, pregnant women with SCD. Since 2015, Dr. Asare has been the primary haematologist with the multidisciplinary SCD obstetrics team at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, where approximately 150 pregnant women with SCD are delivered annually. The team's efforts reduced the institutional maternal and perinatal mortality in SCD by approximately 90% and 60% over 13 months. Over the years, the reduced institutional maternal mortality in SCD has been sustained at 90%. Dr. Asare is focused on using similar effective, low-technology, and affordable strategies to reduce maternal mortality in this cohort in Ghana through a multidisciplinary SCD obstetrics care approach. Dr. Asare is dedicated to advancing the quality of care for this population through research, bridging the gap between evidence and practice.
